Thirty-five years ago Hedwig (Hedda) Durnbaugh’s TheGerman Hymnody of the Brethren, 1720-1903, appeared as the first work inthe Monograph Series published by the Brethren Encyclopedia. Her ground-breaking research shed new lighton the German hymnic tradition of the Brethren, that was heavily dependent onthe Pietist movement as its inspiration.
