The Corinthian church struggled to find its purpose in a
competitive society where ambition and individualism ruled the day. This, along
with increased pluralism, elevated tensions within the church and prompted
instruction from Paul. This study examines the various struggles and points to
a resolution that includes Christian community and cultural diversity. We can
live faithfully as Christ’s disciples while still living in the dominant
culture. Practical examples will combine with Paul’s teachings, to help us look
critically at our own divisions and inspire us toward the hard work and rewards
of Christian unity.
